Protect Our Public Post Offices and Fund Them

On Tuesday, July 28th, the National American Postal Worker’s Union will be holding actions across the country at local post offices to send a strong message to our elected officials:

“Protect Our Public Post Offices and Fund Them.”

In Miami, the unions of the South Florida AFL-CIO will join members of APWU Local 172 at the Norland Branch Post Office from 8:00 am – 10:00 am.

For generations, postal workers have bound the country together by providing reliable service to every home and business across the country, supporting local economies, and protecting democracy. But the Postal Service is facing threats that put all of that at risk. From financial challenges created by outdated laws to attacks on Voter-by-Mail and the possibility that postal leadership will prioritize corporate interests over the public good

“Today across the nation, we are standing together because the Postal Service is one of America’s most trusted public institutions. Every community depends on it, every postal worker takes pride in continuing to provide universal service to more than 167 million addresses,” said Wanda Harris, President of APWU Local 172.

“Congress should strengthen the post office, not force service cuts or post-office closures. We are calling on members of Congress to support financial reforms that strengthen USPS and confirm that postal service leaders are committed to public service; to protect Vote-by Mail and public confidence in election mail; and preserve a strong, universal postal service for every American. Postal workers serve every address, every day, in every community. A strong Postal Service means stronger communities, a stronger democracy and a stronger America,” she added.
