Union Busting Bills are on the Table — We’re Fighting Back
Vote NO on HB 995 & SB 1296
Florida lawmakers are advancing a bill that would rig workplace elections, silence public service workers, and undermine our constitutional right to collectively bargain.
Bills HB 995 and SB 1296 target public-sector unions. They change how the state labor board (PERC) treats our unions and pile on new hurdles. As written, the bills would:
- Tighten the rules for registration and keep a union-certified status.
- Let employers stop dues faster when someone sends a revocation.
- Open more PERC cases when bosses file complaints.
- Raise fines.
- Keep some “public safety” units carved out.
No South Florida lawmakers are listed as sponsors. If South Florida legislators sponsor or vote for anti-union bills like HB 995 or SB 1296, we will name them and hold them accountable with you.
Bottom line: The attacks keep coming. So do we. Stay connected, stay active, and we will protect what we have built together.

Take Action
Here’s how you can take action today:
- Use the Social Toolkit (fastest & most important)
We need every affiliate and member to post this week. The toolkit makes it easy to record a short video and share social content to speak out and show lawmakers we’re paying attention. Tip: Record a 10–20 second video and post it on your personal account, your Local’s page, and in any member groups.
Click here to use the SB 1296 Toolkit - Share the toolkit with 3 coworkers or members
- Send a Letter to Senators
Tell your lawmakers: Floridians oppose anti-worker SB 1296. This bill adds more red tape to union elections, makes it harder to fight for fair pay and benefits, and counts absent workers’ voices without their consent — anti-democratic and anti-worker.
Send the Letter (Oppose SB 1296) - Join a WFLC week in Tallahassee. Tell your steward or call the Local office to get on the travel list. You can also sign up through the Florida AFL-CIO.
Tune in to hearings. We will send links and times so you can watch key committees live.
Be election-ready. If a forced union vote happens, we win it with turnout.
Grow our numbers. Ask a co-worker to join and keep dues current.
