National AFL-CIO Zoom Town Hall Meeting: Updates on the World Cup Games

Hi Everyone,

Here is an invitation to participate in the National AFL-CIO's town hall zoom meeting on the World Cup tomorrow. As we are about to escalate our campaign in Miami-Dade it would be great if you can participate to see what is going on at the national level.

In Solidarity,
Jeffery Mitchell
President, South Florida AFL-CIO

Message from National AFL-CIO Below:

Please join us for a virtual town hall on Wednesday, September 10 (3:00-4:30pm ET), where local stakeholders in the 2026 World Cup host cities can hear from FIFA representatives and members of FWC2026’s Expert Advisory Group about the lessons learned from the recent 2025 Club World Cup (FCWC) for advancing labor and human rights in 2026. See Zoom registration link below.

Over a four-week period in June and July 2025, FIFA held the FCWC across 11 U.S. host cities. Five FCWC venues will also host matches in the 2026 Men’s World Cup next summer: Seattle, Atlanta, Miami, New Jersey, and Philadelphia.

Hosted by the Dignity 2026 Coalition, the town hall will feature a discussion and Q&A with Matthew Mullen (Head of Human Rights, FWC2026), and members of FWC2026’s Expert Advisory Group Anita Ramasastry (EAG member & Professor, University of Washington School of Law) and Deborah Greenfield (EAG member & Labor Policy Consultant) about learnings from FCWC.

Topics will include:

  • An overview of human rights grievances and incidents from FCWC, including in areas of: accessibility; anti-discrimination and safeguarding; workers’ rights; contracts and codes of conduct; and heat.
  • FIFA’s takeaways from FCWC for the 2026 World Cup
  • Opportunities for stakeholders to inform the finalization of Host City Human Rights Action Plans for 2026.

We encourage all local stakeholders to take part in the town hall to learn about 2025 experiences and to directly amplify with FIFA their human rights and labor priorities for 2026.

The event is open to civil society stakeholders only. Please register in advance at https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/I74Nsta-QvmKeygoeJlQcQ to receive a Zoom link.
