A Message from SEIU 1991 President Martha Baker

At Jackson Health System, our mission is clear: "One single high standard of care to all residents, regardless of their ability to pay." Since 1919, this commitment has been made possible through the generous support of the Miami-Dade community. This is how healthcare should be delivered in the richest country in the world.

As the only public health system in Miami-Dade, we face a serious risk if these Affordable Care Act subsidies are not extended. Losing millions of dollars in federal support would directly harm the health of our community. The more access people have to healthcare, the overall health improves, and the costs decrease. There is no logic in ending 4.7 million Flordians from having access to healthcare. We are calling on Congress to extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies so that all Floridians can continue receiving the care they deserve!

I think everyone knows someone, a union member, a relative, a neighbor, a community member that has gone to Jackson Memorial Hospital and received the best care - and that's the way we want to keep it! We have four unions whose jobs may be on the line at Jackson - SEIU 1991, AFSCME 1363, OPEIU 100 and SEIU/CIR.

Please have your members make those calls and email their member of the South Florida Congressional Delegation. Let's get this done and let our UNION voices be heard!
