Senator Elizabeth Warren Stands with Miami Families as ACA Subsidy Expiration Looms
On November 3, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren joined fellow Democratic Senators Chris Murphy and Tina Smith in Miami to meet with working families facing a crisis: skyrocketing healthcare premiums if Congress fails to extend ACA subsidies. Held at SEIU Local 1991, the event spotlighted South Florida as the epicenter of the health care affordability battle.
Florida stands to lose more than any other state if Trump’s premium hikes go into effect. In some regions, over 20% of families rely on the Affordable Care Act for coverage. More than a million Miami-Dade residents would be affected, with families like local psychologist and small business owner Seth Grossman facing monthly premiums of up to $4,500 without federal support.
Senator Warren called Miami “ground zero” for the devastation these cuts would cause, pledging to carry the voices of affected Floridians back to Washington. “Donald Trump is trying to use hungry children, veterans, and seniors as bargaining chips,” she said. “We’re not giving in.”
The South Florida AFL-CIO stands with Senators Warren, Murphy, and Smith in demanding Congress protect working families—not punish them. We urge Florida’s Republican delegation to stop playing political games with people’s lives and extend these critical subsidies now.
